I need a man, can you help?

men's circle talking therapy women's yoga Nov 02, 2020

You will be aware from my emails that I have been hosting a Women's Circle for over a year now.

We meet regularly either at my yoga studio in Hucknall, Nottingham, or more recently online with the social distancing regulations, and this amazing group of women has fast become a place of giggles, friendship, support, encouragement, learning, and empowerment as well as becoming a vehicle for great change in the community.

I have long wanted to create a similar space for our menfolk, but you know, as a woman, it's not something I can do myself

🤷🏼‍♀️

So….

I NEED A MAN

I am looking for a male counterpart who would be willing to host and lead a regularly manly meet-up.

One of the reasons for my desiring this is that the statistics from the Samaritans website make for very upsetting reading and

I am so sincerely sorry if you or any of your family have been affected by any kind of mental illness or mental health challenges

It is my belief that part of this problem stems from the societal culture that

BIG BOYS DON'T CRY

God, that makes me so mad.

Even from a very young age, our female children have been taught that as soon as they meet their Prince Charming, they will live happily ever after.

Do we really want to perpetuate the suggestion that females are incapable of happiness, success, or achievement in their own right??

And isn't being another human being's 'happily ever after' far too huge of a burden to carry for anyone, regardless of gender??

AS A MAN, WHO CAN YOU REALLY TALK TO?

As the mother of boys myself, it feels really, really important to do something to change this uneven way of communicating.

WHAT HAPPENS AT CIRCLE

The finer details can be arranged at a later date but here is a general idea of what happens at the Women's Circle;

We meet regularly, and each month we have a theme around which to focus our discussions (our themes are qualities of archetypal goddesses and how those qualities show up for us as individuals.)

Whatever is shared in Circle stays in Circle and we each have time to speak and we all have the opportunity to listen.

It's never expected that we resolve for someone's problems; we're intelligent enough to trust that we can each find our own solutions. The mere act of being heard and listened to is more powerful than you might imagine. It has also become our practice to offer messages of support, anonymously, (these messages are often treated and kept as a precious gift).

I AM LOOKING FOR A MAN WHO CAN

  • commit to regularly guiding sessions

  • set intentions for discussion (I can help out with this if needed)

  • keep everyone on track so the sessions are concise and don't overrun

  • make sure everyone is heard

  • be part of the discussions - I'm not looking for a leader to be separate from the group

  • put everyone at ease

I REALLY WANT YOU TO BE INVOLVED

(It feels important to mention that it wouldn't be a booze-up. When we've been able to hold Circle at the studio, we've enjoyed hot drinks together - clear heads all round.)

If this feels good for you and you are local to Hucknall, Nottingham, please do get in touch.

And if you happen to know someone else who might be interested, please, please forward this information to them.

My Circle is generating so much good feeling in the community across a really diverse range of intelligent women that it feels really, really important for me to ensure the same opportunities are available for the men of the community.

If you are interested to be part of a manly meet-up, but not necessarily hold the responsibility of leading it, I would love it if you could drop me an email so I can let you know if it happens. Any suggestions for discussion themes that you would find interesting or beneficial would be great to know, as well.

All my love to you,
